If this route was a musical variation of the Over the Water and Through the Woods route, you would still recognize the tune, but the harmony would be different enough to capture your interest. The middle part of the route, from Bond Park to Lake Crabtree is the common material while the outer sections represent variations to the parallel runs in Over the Water and Through the Woods.
One unique stretch in this route is the link between the Lake Johnson Park to the Maria Dorrel Park in southeast Cary. From there, a bike/ped bridge on the Hinshaw Greenway traverses US 1/64 and leads to Cary neighborhoods. A five and a half mile stretch on the Cary Parkway gets to Bond Park where the route starts to mirror the Over the Water and Through the Woods route. The leg back to Raleigh is the other major variation featured in Take Two. This route also passes through Umstead on the return to Raleigh, but follows Weston Parkway and North Harrison to enter the peace and quiet of Umstead. Returning to Dix Park via Beryl Rd., the route passes through the Ligon tunnel and on to the Rocky Branch Trail.
