Beginning near the PNC center this 3 1/4 mile section of the Richland Creek Trail follows the creek bed as it traces the edge of Schenck Forest to Reedy Creek Rd. near Umstead Park. The tunnel under Wade Avenue is one of the longest in the greenway system and features a tricky egress on the north end of the tunnel. Exiting the tunnel on the north side, the rider must carry the bike with one hand and holding two ropes with the other, while walking a narrow ledge just above the water line! The south end of the trail begins of E. Stephen Stroud Way between Peter Karmanos Dr. and Edwards Mill Road.
The above tunnel under Wade Avenue opens onto Schenck Forest. Bicycles and dogs are strictly forbidden in the park, so for a cyclist, there is no need to walk the ledge while holding the bike in one hand, and the rope in the other.
