On April 16, 2005, one of the most significant links in the Raleigh Greenway system was opened on the Reedy Creek Trail. This 660-foot long bridge accelerated public interest in the greenway system.
Designed with the Sydney, Australia Harbor Bridge in mind, and costing $3.8 million, the Reedy Creek Pedestrian Bridge now links the Meredith College campus with the Art Museum Park. Zooming out for a bigger picture, this connector creates a solid link between the Raleigh and Cary Greenway systems. In addition, Umstead Park became an easy ride between mid town Raleigh neighborhoods. Umstead itself is a link with the entire Cary Greenway system.
Many of the routes on this site use the Reedy Creek Pedestrian bridge to cross 440. These include the Cary Short Loop, Over the Water and Through the Woods, Into the Woods, Five Parks Loop, and Pieces Parts.
