Milburnie Dam Bridge

Milburnie Dam Bridge from the west.

Just south of the old Milburnie Dam site off the Neuse River Tail this bridge crosses the Neuse River. From the bridge, the view to the north is of the old dam site and of an area known as ‘Raleigh Beach’. The dam was removed in 2017 but had existed at that point in the river for years, notably providing electricity for Raleigh’s trolly system. Raleigh beach is still a swimming hole, though the river covers the sand when the river is high.

The Neuse River Trail crosses the Neuse River just south of the dam and connects to a small neighborhood of Loch Raven Parkway. From there, Old Milburnie Rd. heads north and crosses I-540 near the Wilmar Golf course. Just east of the golf course Old Milburnie intersects with Forestville Rd., which can be used to head into east Raleigh via Buffalo Rd., or to go west into Knightdale.
