Williamson Preserve

The Williamson Preserve is a relatively new trail-riding spot that straddles the Wake/Johnson county line just off the Neuse River Trail between mile marker 27 and 28. There is parking off Mial Plantation road if you want to schlepp your bike by car. To add some variety to your greenway ride, you can access the trail network from a connector trail that links to the Neuse River Trail.

Donated in 2013, the preserve has about 7 miles of multi use trails on 405 acres. The trails are like links in a chain in that they are in a line, and intersect. To travel most efficiently from point A to point B, one would need to follow the ‘outside’ of the links – riding a series of 1/2 loops. There are rules about direction of travel on various days, so, have a look-see before you start. The trails pictured here are relatively stable rides for most bikes, but for the loops, a wide set of handlebars and some knobby tires would make the ride more fun.
