This route briefly uses Ten-Ten Rd. and Tryon Rd., both of which can be inhospitable to cyclists at high traffic times. Downtown Apex is charming, Olive Chapel Rd. is a good road, and the American Tobacco Trail opens all sorts of possibilities for permutations.
While there is less traffic on the roads on Sunday mornings, the greenways are often jammed – especially around Bond Park. Taking one of the many road options in Cary is the “Easy Button” for this problem. The ATT handles the crowds better than the greenways, but vigilance is required.
This route connects to the American Tobacco Trail near it’s south end in a great riding area. Loop over to Jordan Lake before heading north on the ATT. There are many ways to travel east/west through Cary to begin your descent into downtown Raleigh.
