Up and Over is one of the longest routes in this collection, and mostly follows greenway trails. The route shows one way to cross over from the Honeycutt Trail to the Neuse River Trail. Two other options for the cross are also broken out and shown separately.
From Dix Park, the ‘up’ part of this route uses six greenway trails to reach the ‘over’ part of the ride. Rocky Branch, Reedy Creek, Crabtree Creek, Mine Creek, East Fork Mine Creek, and Honeycutt all connect with little fuss. The ‘over’ part of the route is the connection to the Neuse River Trail heading back south.
This route leaves Honeycutt trail at the Sheffield neighborhood, follows Raven Ridge road for about a mile, and intersects Falls of the Neuse, which has a bike path on the south side of the road. Dunn Rd. (at the Dunkin Donuts) leads to the Bedford neighborhood and access to the Neuse River Trail. The Crabtree Creek Trail can be used to get back to Dix Park (shown here), as can the Walnut Creek Trail – for a slightly longer ride. Honeycutt Park, and the WRAL soccer fields are potential rest stops on this route, as both have indoor plumbing.
There are at least three options for the ‘over’ part of this route. The complete ride shown above indicates the longest link or the three clocking in at 11.2 miles, as measured from the Loniker Dr. turn to the WRAL Soccer Fields. The two alternatives shown below are shorter and both involve riding along Durant Rd.. The most direct follows Durant and Perry Creek Rds. to WRAL Soccer Park and measures 6.1 miles, reducing the total mileage to 40 miles. Abbotts Creek Trail is used in the second example and clocks in at 8.4 miles, making the total somewhere around 42.3 miles.
